Farewell Cornell Cedar Clarke

On Friday, April 1st,  69 members of  the Sun City Center Lawn Bowling Club attended a Memorial Service at St John the Divine Church - along with many more members of the community at large - to honor the life of their cherished member Cornell Clarke who had passed away a few days earlier.

Cornell had been an active and valuable member of the Lawn Bowling Club for two decades; he was President of the Club in 2006.

A past member of the Board, he was often called upon to give legal advice to them and explain points of law at the Bowling Club General Meetings.

A unique gesture that he will always be remembered for was when he phoned members each year on their birthday, to wish them Happy Birthday.

In 2007, he initiated the sinking of a well to provide much needed water for the lawn bowling greens.  The Club had  always experienced a shortage of sufficient water for the greens which resulted in their poor condition for many years.  He set up a fund to raise the monies needed and researched the various options and, with the assistance of the CA, the well and additional sprinklers were commissioned in February 2008.

Farewell, Cornell.  We will miss your cheerful voice and happy smile.
